Ellas y Yo Mexicanas by Silvita Diaz Brown
April 2024-Present
Ellas Y Yo Mexicanas is inspired by uncompromising painter Frida Kahlo and feminist writer/musician Sor Juana Inés de La Cruz, two historic Mexican women who broke away from colonialist and marianismo expectations and power dynamics. In this work, they will be joined by a contemporary Mexican/American woman, “Silvita.” Conceived as a triptych dance piece, Ellas Y Yo depicts Mexican women artists driven to create while working within, against, and through the restrictive pressures and expectations of women in the 17th, 20th, and 21st centuries. The work seeks a link that connects them all.

Convalescence is set to Clinically Designed Improvisatory Music (CDIM) which is proven to create feelings of calm and relaxation. Composers Clara Takarabe and H. Anton Riehl create an atmosphere where we can release and reflect through the power of the dissonant notes of CDIM music.
In Convalescence we explore the healing properties of the arts through our choreographic interpretations of their highly unique composition. Tickets are donation based and we ask that you contribute at the level that you are able.
